Ten different Marine Corps boot camp pictures stare down from above the fireplace mantle at my Mom and Dad's house. As more and more pictures got added through the years, that picture shelf has become a sort of family icon. My Dad and my brother are on it. I am on it. Several uncles, a great-uncle, and some cousins.
A couple years ago, when I asked my oldest son why he wanted to enlist in the Marine Corps, one of the first things he told me was that he wanted to be on the mantle. 

​  Military blood runs in our family, so when my dad told us his idea to honor a friend and fellow Marine with
a stained glass Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, we were all on board. And we were pretty sure the recipient was going to love it. And they did.​ But none of us anticipated the emotional impact. There were hugs and wet eyes. He wanted to know if we could make more. He took pictures, called friends. It was an unexpectedly powerful moment, and it affected all of us. We knew we had an opportunity to share that feeling, so we spent the next weeks and months planning and building to create something we thought could work. So we made Valor Glassworks both our company and our passion and look forward to sharing it with you.
